What RTP means
RTP (Return to Player) is the percentage a slot is designed to pay back over the long term. A 96% RTP means that, across millions of spins, the game returns £96 for every £100 staked on average.
RTP is a long-run average, not a promise for your session. But all else equal, a higher RTP is better value. Look for 96%+ where you can.
Volatility (variance)
- Low volatility — frequent small wins; steadier, lower risk.
- Medium — a balance of frequency and size.
- High volatility — rarer wins but bigger potential; swings harder.
Rule of thumb
High-volatility slots can drain a budget quickly. Smaller stakes help your money last when variance is high.
Choosing a slot
Want long sessions and entertainment? Pick low/medium volatility with high RTP. Chasing a big hit and happy with risk? High volatility — but only with money you can afford to lose. See our Safer Gambling guide.
